NBA LOCKOUT

I'm do not watch very much TV, but around this time of year, I find myself searching for something to fill the void between NFL Sundays.  Baseball is over and I need my fix... I want to watch sports more than once or twice a week!  But as I browse channels I do not find anything to watch and the only thing I notice is a funny taste in my mouth.  It's vomit, because I (along with millions of other NBA fans) am disgusted with the players and owners collective inability to reach an agreement over the ridiculous amount of money they will all be making.   If you aren't a fan of the NBA, but are a fan of Occupy Wall Street, listen up, because its a fine example of the %1 totally screwing the %99.  Opening night of the 2011 NBA season was supposed to have been about a week ago.  I never thought that a lockout would actually happen, that's the kind of shenanigans found in second-class sports leagues like the NHL, but I guess the NBA is not so different.  For those of you that do not know what exactly a lockout is let me explain.  Basically, all the money earned from ticket sales, concessions, merchandise etc. has to be divided between the players and the owners.  To decide how much money each party gets, the players and owners have a contract that splits the profits.  In this "collective bargaining agreement" are the rules for who makes how much money, details on player contracts, salary cap rules, and then lots of other things like broadcasting rights and drug use etc.

So, now that you have a basic idea of what the collective bargaining agreement is all about, you might have an idea of why the players union and owners are at a disagreement.  Like two bickering parents locked in argument they are oblivious to the fact that their children are watching and are very upset that they cannot get along.  The children are the fans and we're more than upset, were confused as to why David Stern (NBA commissioner) and Billy Hunter (head of the players union) can't just kiss and make up.

First Post: About "The Bourhis"

This is my first ever blog post.  I intend on writing about things that are interesting to me, but if you know "The Bourhis" you know I do it for the fans!  So, with that in mind, I will (sway you, the humble reader, to my opinions) do my best to write about diverse topics that may be of interest to anyone of moderate intelligence.
This will be a work in progress, based on what I want to write about.  This is not for a class or for my resume, it is an experiment to get my foot in the door of the blogging world.  I am a journalism major at Boston University's College of Communications because I enjoy writing.  I especially enjoy writing about things that I like, so if you like what I enjoy, then keep reading.
"The Bourhis" will feature posts about current events, politics, sports, travel, books, movies, and adventures.  I hope that everyone will be able to find something that interests them in "The Bourhis"
